Illuminating 4Roots Warehouse with Orlando-Built IoT and Circular Tech.

At Stellar Lighting Systems, we’re all about turning smart ideas into real impact. Our latest project with 4Roots Farm—a local nonprofit building a healthier food system—shows exactly how. We upgraded their Orlando warehouse with our custom X-Series lights, slashing energy use by 80% while making the space brighter and safer. It’s a perfect blend of efficiency, sustainability, and community good. Let’s break down how we did it.

Re-Lighting 4Roots Farm Warehouse

Our factory direct approach ensures competitive pricing, faster lead times, and top-quality products made with custom electronics manufactured in the USA.

Getting to Know the Space

It all started with a hands-on visit to 4Roots’ distribution warehouse. As a nonprofit hub for food repacking and community distributions, they handle everything from fresh produce to floral arrangements. Our team dove into the existing setup, spotting pain points in lighting for safety, productivity, and energy waste. The goal? Create a system that supports their mission of connecting people with nutritious, ethical food—without breaking the bank.

Mapping Out the Perfect Light Plan

Next, we crunched the numbers with photometric modeling to design a custom layout. This meant plotting light distribution to hit the right foot-candles (that’s the measure of light hitting surfaces) exactly where needed—like packing stations and aisles—for top-notch visibility and minimal waste. No more dark corners or over-lit empty spots.

Dialing in Efficiency with X-Series

We tailored our X-Series lights for this exact space, pushing them to 235 lumens per watt. What’s that mean? Lumens per watt is basically MPG for lights—how much brightness (lumens) you squeeze out of each bit of power (watts). Our setup is like a car getting 30 MPG versus the old-school 15 MPG: way more bang for your buck, with less energy guzzled.

Made right here in Orlando using 80% recycled materials, these lights last up to 25 years (110,000 hours at 10 hours a day) and are fully upgradeable. It’s circular tech at its best—built to evolve, not expire.

Color Choices That Pop

We didn’t stop at brightness. For the floral area, we went with 5000K (cool, daylight vibes) to make colors pop naturally. The main warehouse got 4000K for a clean, workable glow. Across the board, everything rocks a high Color Rendering Index (CRI)—a 0-100 score on how true-to-life colors look under the light, compared to sunlight. At over 90 CRI, fruits, veggies, and flowers look vibrant and accurate, helping with quality checks and making the space feel welcoming for volunteers.

Empowering Installers with Training and On-Site Support

To ensure a flawless rollout, we partnered with a trusted third-party electrical contractor and provided hands-on training for their team. From wiring best practices to fixture setup and testing, our experts walked them through every detail. We also offered on-site support throughout the process, troubleshooting in real-time to keep things smooth. This collaborative approach guarantees our partners are equipped to deliver Stellar-quality results every time.

The Payoff: Brighter Spaces, Bigger Impact

The results? An 80% drop in energy use, saving an estimated $30,000 a year and trimming 150 tons of carbon emissions. And get this—we actually boosted average foot-candles, creating safer, more productive spots that keep volunteers coming back. Those savings? Straight to fueling 4Roots’ community programs, from farm education to sustainable ag initiatives.
